"I just missed out."
These are things that you might have heard yourself saying when you missed out on that plum gig. What were the factors? Why did they choose someone else? The reason might be indecision on your part, not having the answers to critical questions or it might have been a matter of cost. Whatever it was, you need to identify it so next time you can land the gig.
