In Thanks for God’s Protection
You and I have come a long way, Lord
You have brought me through so many things
the wholesale sinning
selfish motivations
and abandonment of You
all this time
You were at my side
counseling,
grieving for me
and patiently waiting
now I am near completion
temptation comes
and I feel Your protection
I know that You are with me
shielding me
saving me
forgiving me
I still have a way to go
bad habits nag at me
small things, selfish things
but the distractions
the unholy things that lead me into sin
no longer interest me
I feel You at my side
encouraging and strengthening me
I say Your name and I am defended,
fortified
able to overcome
praise be to Your holy name
that is the shield that covers me
