Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you. James 4:10
Humility Prayer
everything that surrounds me
nature, people,
even the things I can’t touch or see
has humbled me, Lord
the miracle that is my universe,
for You have bestowed it upon me,
often made me feel small
and childlike
but as the years have passed
I have slowly lost my wonder
for Your handiwork
taken for granted
the things that serve
and sustain me
I begin to think myself
more than I am
I puff my chest out
and boldly proclaim
“see what I have done?”
in those moments
You are completely forgotten
please, Lord
use whatever means necessary
to remind me that I am only
a tiny portion of this world
I have my place
and that purpose is known
only to You
when you see fit to justify my role
revealing Yourself through me
only then will my humility be justified
keep me humble, Oh Lord
so that others might see Your might
splendor and glory
and come to believe
that You alone are God
